Thomas Thiede specialises in advising and representing clients in German and European competition law as well as commercial and corporate law.His practice focuses primarily on merger control proceedings before competition authorities, representation in cartel fine proceedings, pursuing and defending cartel-related damages claims, ensuring competition-law compliance in contracts and distribution systems, and providing general competition-law advice.

Another key area of his legal practice is litigation and out-of-court advisory in commercial and corporate law, especially regarding corporate transactions. Given his extensive international experience, he is regularly consulted on cross-border matters and the drafting of contracts in English.

Thomas Thiede is an Honorary Professor at the Karl-Franzens-University in Graz. He has authored numerous books and articles, particularly in the fields of competition law as well as international private and procedural law. He contributes, among other publications, to the Soergel commentary on the German Civil Code (BGB) and the Schwimann/Kodek Practical Commentary on the Austrian Civil Code (ABGB). He is a regular contributor to NZG – Neue Zeitschrift für Gesellschaftsrecht published by C.H. Beck and serves as a member of the editorial advisory board of EuZW – Europäische Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsrecht, also published by C.H. Beck.
